George Bailey constantly wants to get out Bedford Falls to a more grand version of what his life could be, but then he realizes that all the beauty and goodness in his life had been there all along. That’s the heart of this song. As for me, I don’t want to miss the beauty of the moment in the pursuit of the vain things that might charm my soul most. Presentness in the moment, gratitude for what is right in front of me is a celebration that I am, in fact, already whole.
